Introducing Baldwin House's second tenant-owner!
Organizer, farmer, and entrepreneur Muhsin “Boe” Umar is joining Baldwin House!
Baldwin House supporters, we have exciting news - longtime organizer, urban farmer, and entrepreneur Muhsin “Boe” Umar is joining Baldwin House as our second tenant-owner! As a tenant-owner, he will not only live in Baldwin House but will also co-own the building.
“Uncle Boe,” as he’s affectionately called, has been making waves in DC for years. As President of Garfield Terrace Senior Building, the third largest senior living center in DC, he’s helped bring mutual aid, food distribution, and sustainable community gardening to his neighbors.
Boe is also the co-founder of Hustlaz 2 Harvesters, a social entrepreneurial venture for people returning from incarceration. It creates training opportunities for people to enter into professions in the environment and sustainability. We are overjoyed that he’ll be bringing this wealth of experience to the Baldwin House community.
But even as we build this community of incredible lifelong DC residents, we still need your help to make it a reality. We need to raise $36k in the coming weeks to fulfill conditions of the contract and continue moving forward in the closing process. If you’re able, please consider making a donation to help us meet our goals and create truly affordable housing in DC.
