Read our Op-Ed: Building community for a new type of housing development
Our recent op-ed describes how neighbors are serving as investors and developers to create Baldwin House
This is truly a people-powered project. Together, neighbors and friends have come together to serve the role of developer and investors to buy an apartment building and turn it into an affordable housing community owned by tenants who live there and a community hub.
Together, we have already accomplished so much! We…
Negotiated a contract and fundraised a $125,000 deposit for the building.
Raised $307,000 to cover all unpaid rent during the pandemic and to support all tenants who wished to move elsewhere.
Maneuvered the dicey landscape for tenants to buy their building, with pro bono support of lawyers, developers, accountants, and friends.
Read our Op-Ed published last week in 730DC, explaining the ecosystem we’re operating in. You can read the Op-Ed here.

Now, as we come upon this next hurdle to come up with the remaining $172,00 of our downpayment and finalize our loan to buy the building, we need to reach more people.
We have two asks for you:
If you have a social media account, post the language and/or image above to help us tell more people about Baldwin House:
